About
Dr José Zurdo is a Specialist Periodontist with more than thirty years of experience in periodontal and implant dentistry. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bilbao, then completed his dental and estomatology training at the University of Barcelona. After several years working as a general dentist in Barcelona he opened and ran his own practice in Vitoria for twelve years, where his interest in implant dentistry developed into a strong clinical focus.

Seeking advanced expertise, José completed an MSc in Implantology and Oral Rehabilitation through the New York University College of Dentistry and the European School of Oral Rehabilitation, Implantology and Biomaterials. He later moved to Houston for a one year advanced training programme in surgical techniques within periodontology. Determined to refine his skills at the highest level, he then relocated to Sweden and completed a three year full time specialist programme at the University of Gothenburg, internationally recognised as a leading centre for periodontal and implant research and training. He gained a University Diploma, an MSc, and specialist recognition in Periodontology from the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare. He was also recognised as a Specialist by the General Dental Council in the United Kingdom.

José has been the lead Periodontist at Carisbrooke Dental since 2002 and has contributed extensively to postgraduate education. His teaching roles include clinical instructor for the MClinDent in Periodontology at the Eastman Dental Institute, lecturer at Ariminum Research and Dental Education Centre in Italy, and faculty member at St Ann’s Dental Education Centre in Manchester. From 2007 to 2012 he led the postgraduate programme in Periodontology at the University of Central Lancashire, where he developed the full structure and curriculum. He continues to collaborate as an honorary lecturer and clinical instructor for the MSc in Implantology, for which Carisbrooke is a recognised training centre.

Clinical Focus
José specialises in the management of advanced periodontal disease, peri implant disease, and complex interdisciplinary cases that require coordinated periodontal, restorative, and implant planning. His expertise includes hard and soft tissue grafting, microsurgical plastic procedures, implants in compromised sites, and regenerative techniques. He has also completed advanced training in regenerative implant dentistry in Budapest with Istvan Urban to further master the most progressive bone regeneration procedures.
